Do you remember when cars first started getting popular?
The look.
The feel.
The curves.
Everything was crafted with such precision.
I imagine a designer spending all day on one eloquently spaceship-like dashboard button.
It was an art form, it was beautiful, it was the future.
Do you remember when Apple first started getting popular?
The colors.
The feel.
The curves.
Everything was crafted with such precision.
I imagine a designer spending weeks in adding such little details to make things look as authentically-real as possible.
The applications looked like the real world, various fonts, real textures, drop shadows.
It was an art form, it was beautiful, it was the future.
Do you remember when the “Dot Com” first started getting popular?
The look.
The feel.
The curves.
The heavy loaded flash sites crafted with such precision.
I imagine a designer spending months working in flash, and interactive video elements building a reality you only saw in movies.
See, when you’re the first. You don’t need to be the strongest, safest, fastest; simplest, or most usable. The eye candy seduces and can bring attention to the new market category.
If you’re going to be the first to start something, make it beautiful.
It’s not about getting them to look, it’s about having them gaze.
Because, when you’re the first, you need to get noticed.
